A television writer turned stage character actor — bringing comic timing, warmth and a storyteller’s instinct to musical theatre, improv, television and film.
Douglas Friedman began his career as a television writer and took up acting years later — and has never stopped doing both.
Professionally, he remains a writer specializing in the promotion and marketing of television properties. On stage he has played leads and excels in character parts, from Fagin in Oliver! and Thénardier in Les Misérables to Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and Herr Schultz in Cabaret.
His screen work includes NBC’s Hunter (Stephen J. Cannell Productions) and the Paul Rodriguez comedy Holy Cash. A veteran of the National Comedy Theatre house team, he now performs on the Pseudo Random Noise mainstage. He also serves the arts community as a producer, marketing director and board member — and writes a weekly Substack of stories from four decades in television, theatre and travel.
From musical theatre character leads to network television, a body of work built on range, comic precision and heart.
